| Customer service is priority number one at Sunny Valley Farms. We work hard to fill orders according to our customer's needs. Planting of our fall potato crop begins in April and extends into May. Potato harvest starts in early September and is usually finished by mid-October. SVF's seed potato crop is sized according to our buyer's specifications at harvest. | SVF has always been and will always be aware of the environmental impacts of farming. SVF does not use any kind of chemical weed control and we call upon the assistance of lady bugs for aphid control in our potato fields. SVF practices annual-year crop rotation on all fields to decrease incidence of disease and improve the quality of the soil. We have been using compost since 1994 in our soil nutrient composition. We know that the addition of composts provides our soil with additional nutrients and beneficial fungi which insures excellent plant health and proper soil tilth for growing potatoes. The San Luis Valley's water supply is one of the most precious commodities in the state of Colorado. In response to the drought conditions in these past years, SVF has removed all of the end-guns and over-hangs on our sprinkler systems. In doing so, we have effectively reduced our irrigation acreage by 150 acres. |
